The new Limestone County Historical Society Officers for 2010-2011, were installed by Limestone County Commission Chairman David Seibert, far right, at the Societies Annual Meeting held at the Rogers Center on Oct. 20th. The new officers shown from the left are: Don Frost, parliamentarian, Patricia Hatchett, historian, Rex Lewis, treasurer, Dwight Banta, secretary, Jerry Duke, vice president and Linda Nelson, president.

Featured Speaker at the Annual Meeting was retired history teacher Ronald Pettus, who spoke on “Little Known Connections”, of historical events and people to Alabama.

Award

Richard Martin on the left presented the Faye Axford Award to Cecil Armstrong Jr. for his restoration of “Cotton Hill”, built circa 1832. The home was on the Cotton Hill plantation of Luke Matthews.

Restoration work being performed at the Old New Garden Cemetery Levesque tomb recently by the Historical Society and interested parties. The final result is shown below and a previous photograph showing the devastating damage to the cemetery by vehicles and vandals.
